Pantone Color of the Year 2021

Pantone named PANTONE® 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating, a bright yellow, as the Pantone color of the year for 2021. This is only the second time that Pantone has named two colors as the color of the year.

Now, not that I’m saying I had anything to do with this but… didn’t I say I wanted to see the yellow/gray combination come back into popularity again? While it would be nice to believe Pantone read my post on December 4th and made their announcement December 9th, I'm sure their decision was in the works for a much longer time. No matter, I LOVE this color combination. And, I may just create more than a few yellow and gray quilts in the coming year.

Decision Made

Beaded Feathers Fabric

While I was busy all week with several projects, I did make a decision on my Beaded Feathers quilt. This is the one I posted several options and you shared your comments. I could have gone with option 1 to stay with the Yellow/Gray theme. But, I went with option 6. What?? You say. You only had five options in the post. True, I ended up going with an option that wasn’t even in the post.

Why? Well, one thing I considered was which fabrics would be leftover and what I might be able to do with those in another quilt. I didn’t want to end up with a batch of fabric that no longer cooridnated because I used all of the blenders in another quilt. Plus, there is one very strong teal in the group and it balanced with the floral teal very well. So, I’m making a teal/yellow quilt instead of a gray/yellow quilt.

The top color is the Vanilla solid for the setting blocks, borders and background in the quilt. It is ever so slightly off-white and pairs well with the prints while allowing the yellow to shine.

Pantone Color of the Year Projects

I'm very excited to start working with the Pantone Color of the Year 2021 yellow and gray theme. So far, I am working on two specific ideas for yellow and gray themed quilts. Both are patterns of my own design. One is a sampler quilt featuring a small group of blocks with the same block name. The other is a one block design using a favorite block of mine. And no, it isn't the Ohio Star block which IS my all time favorite block pattern. I plan to release the first pattern in February 2021. Stay tuned for details!

Current Projects

There are many other projects in the works for 2021. For now, I'm finishing up some long arm projects. And, I have my Black Cherries wall hanging on the design wall. For fun, and a break from everything else, I cut the fabric for Beaded Feathers quilt. I think I'm going to enjoy this project.

Cut and ready for sewing - Beaded Feathers

Other than that, I'm ready for my Christmas. I have all my shopping done. There is only one gift I'm waiting for delivery. Good news, the shipper says it's on it's way! Are you ready for your holiday celebrations?

Until next time,
