Beaded Feathers Quilt Project
I’m excited about this one. I’ve had these fabrics for about two years now. I only need four of them for the pattern. Regardless of the four I select, I will be adding an off-white, vanilla white or almond white for the background, setting squares, and borders. The white-white I have is just too stark a contrast for these fabrics.
The quilt is “Beaded Feathers” by Joyce Lundrigan of Methodist Hill Quilt Studio. It is the December AIO project. This is an easy quilt project that should come together fast. The quilt features a pieced block alternating with solid squares. The pieced block features two fabrics in the center with two other fabrics crossing through the block on the diagonal. Four fabrics total. All the blocks are the same.
Option 1
My first thought was to select a yellow and gray color scheme. I’ve always wanted to do a yellow and gray quilt. I know that the yellow-gray combo was all the rage about 10 years ago, but I want to bring it back. It’s so classic and sophisticated, don’t you think? This one would feature the more solid gray and yellow fabrics (bottom of the stack) as the diagonal fabrics and the gray floral and yellow floral in the center of the block.

Option 2
My second thought was to swap the large yellow floral with a more subtle yellow floral. Still yellow and gray but the prints are a little less busy. Humm? As with Option 1, the more solid gray and yellow (bottom of the stack) are the diagonal fabrics. The gray floral is the same and the yellow floral is swapped with a different more subtle yellow print.

Option 3
For this one I traded the yellow fabric for a teal fabric. It creates a stronger contrast between the gray floral and the two diagonal fabrics. Actually, it might be too strong of a contrast. Your thought??

Option 4
So, let’s go in another direction. This time we’ll drop the gray altogether and replace it with teal. For this option I chose a different solid yellow and a solid teal for the diagonal fabrics. Then I brought back that lighter yellow to pair with the teal from option 3 as the center of the block. Thoughts??

Option 5
Ok, one more. This time I swapped the teal print for a teal floral. I think this has a softer look to it than option 4. It uses the same two fabrics for the diagonal in the block that I used in option 4. I kept the same the soft yellow print, too, and changed to a teal floral. Again, your thoughts?
